Teachers & Choreographers
KATHY WALKER, Owner and Director of Elevate is from Staten Island, New York where she began dancing at the age of five. She competed in numerous competitions and conventions in New York City and taught at several studios in both Brooklyn and Staten Island. Kathy has been teaching in Virginia Beach for the past seventeen years and has been a studio owner for the last seven years, operating formerly as Encore Dance Center II. Kathy holds a B.A. in English from Wagner College and is a certified member of Dance Masters of America and The Dance Teachers Association of Virginia. She teaches tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, and musical theater at various ages and levels. Her students and choreography have won overall high scores at multiple competitions. Kathy believes that whether a student wants to have a career in dance or is just dancing for fun, dance builds self-confidence, a sense of accomplishment and relationships that will last a lifetime!
SCHUYLER DICKENS hails from Chesapeake, VA. She began dance training at the age of two. As a child, she won numerous awards at several competitions including Hollywood Vibe, Dance Troupe Inc. and Starbound National Talent Competition. She continued her her dance education at Virginia Commonwealth University and Old Dominion University. She has has the honor of performing for George de la Pena (who called the duet she performed a "gem"), Shani Collins, and Sean Curran, among others. Schuyler was also an inagural member of the Virginia Destroyers Cheerleaders. She has instructed at several Dance studios in the Hampton Roads area and has also coached and guest choreographed for various dance teams in the region. She is currently a member of UpStream Society and CREWcial, two dance crews based in the area.
AMBER ROMANO native of Rhode Island, began her classical ballet training at the age of five. Upon graduating high school, she began her professional career with Nashville Ballet in Tennessee, where she performed for four years. Amber moved to Norfolk in August 2016 to work for Todd Rosenlieb Dance and Virginia Ballet Theatre, where she performs classical ballet, contemporary dance, and modern dance repertory. She is also a co-director of the Virginia Ballet Theatre Pre-Professional Ensemble, and teaches classical ballet throughout Hampton Roads.
JAMIE KIRWAN began cheerleading competitively at the age of 6, and continued to compete at the highest level for the next 12 years. In addition to her competitive cheerleading career she was an integral member of the South Lakes High School varsity gymnastics team. Over the summers, in between her competition cheerleading camps she volunteered her extra time as a cheerleading coach for Reston Youth Cheerleading. Jamie discovered her passion for coaching along with a passion for health and wellness during this time, which lead to her pursuing a course of study that would eventually culminate in her earning a B.S in Health and Physical Education and Exercise Science from Old Dominion University in 2012. After graduation she started her coaching and training career at Excalibur Gymnastics as a Rec Director, overseeing the administration of Excalibur’s recreational department in addition to providing coaching services .She later became the Assistant Fitness Director at Onelife Fitness. Although she is now pursuing a career in the hospitality industry she maintains her passion for teaching and loves being able to pass on her knowledge of human movement by continuing to teach Acro and provide personal training.
Chelsea Bal a native of Atlantic City, New Jersey, Chelsea began dancing at the age of 3 with a former rockette. Since her first tap solo at 5 years old, she has always been passionate for tap. She has been choreographing tap solos since the age of 16 and has trained in ballet, jazz, lyrical and hip hop. Chelsea has won multiple awards in competitions like Starbound, Nexstar, and Dancers Inc. She has also spent time competing throughout the Miss America Organization, winning a title in 2010, a preliminary to Miss NJ Outstanding Teen. Tap has always been her favorite, and she enjoys passing on her passion to all levels. Chelsea brings a spark to our tap groups by using modern songs and always learning new steps to teach.
TOMOMI BROWN began teaching in 2005. She taught at Virginia Ballet Theatre, Ballet Virginia International and Nice school of Dance. Tomomi has taught dancers from the ages of three to adults. She trained and earned her degree in Musical Theater in Japan. Tomomi performed with a drama company that toured of the country, amusement parks and theaters in Japan. Also Tomomi took summer intensives at School of the Hartford Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, San Diego Ballet and Boston Ballet.
